Answering the call for affordable housing.

Sojourner Truth challenges parishioners at the Old Stone Church: “Ain’t I a Woman?”

about the film

An Answer from Akron offers a fresh perspective on the city’s history.

Settlers migrate from Connecticut to the frontier of Northeastern Ohio, founding the village of Akron. Sojourner Truth challenges parishioners at the Old Stone Church: “Ain’t I a Woman?”

John Brown pursues his war on slavery while working for Colonel Simon Perkins. Akron transforms from an agricultural community to an industrial powerhouse: the Rubber Capitol of the world. And at the height of the civil rights movement a group of young African American men deny nay-sayers and provide affordable housing for families displaced by an aggressive urban renewal program. A goal only achievable by these people, at this time and in this place.
